How We Painted Our Brick Home

Alright, I think the painting saga has drug on long enough! I am excited to take you on the journey that is ‘painting our 1950’s brick house.’ As some of you know, I was reluctant to paint the brick for the longest time. Thank goodness some of you reached out and set me straight haha because it turned out amazing!  So here are the many ups and downs, and laborious days of painting our house. I also included: A budget break down on all the supplies we used Roughly how much it would have cost us to hire professionals Our cost to paint it ourselves A list of all the…

    Faux Wood Shutters

Shortly after we moved in, we removed all the old drapes thinking we would soon be replacing them. We then realized new window treatments were not going to be in the budget after an extensive remodel of our main living area. So we were given some sheer curtains and decided to literally tack them to the wall. We made due with this solution for far too long! After our new windows were installed, it was time to pull the trigger on legit window treatments.  Long were the days of little privacy, tacked up shears, and the sun fading away the couch cushions.  Different Options I ordered a bunch of different…

    Installation of New Windows

On our quest to increase the energy efficiency in our home, we needed to replace the windows.  If you remember back to when we remodeled our kitchen, we only replaced four windows in the kitchen.  This left the remaining 10 windows in our house to be replaced. We knew this was going to be an expensive upgrade, but in turn decided it was feasible when factoring in resale value and ability for our homes heating and air conditioning units to work optimally.  The best bang for our buck for this project was to hire the professionals. I am not a window expert in the slightest!  Since we already did some…

    Fireplace Renovation

With all the snow that has been accumulating, there has been nothing better than to curl up in front of the fireplace. The warmth and the crackle of the fire makes for the perfect spot to ride out the remainder of this crazy winter we have been experiencing lately. Though the fireplace hasn’t always been a sanctuary in our home. Rewind to the winter of 2017 with lots of snow outside a drafty house and our refusal to turn on the furnace. The keys to the house were finally ours and demolition of the majority of the interior had begun. Left to the wayside was the dated orange brick fireplace…

Major Kitchen Renovation – The Big Reveal

I guess I should preface this by saying, we are 98% done. The main thing missing from the kitchen is crown moulding, which will be done at our leisure. Other than that we are looking at painting the wood window sills, moulding around the bottom of the cabinets, and overall touching up some paint. So, just bear with me and imagine some crown moulding above the cabinets to the ceiling, and we will be good to go for this reveal! I am so excited to show you the finished kitchen, but first let’s go back to the beginning so you can fully appreciate the transformation! Also, you can click on…

    Major Kitchen Renovation Week 13

It was an unlucky week 13! Miscommunication mixed with unforeseen circumstances made for one messed up backsplash. You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8 Week 9 Week 10 Week 11 Week 12 It would have been too easy of a project completion if this week went smoothly. The backsplash was the finishing touch to the quartz countertops. Even though a portion of the backsplash needs to be taken off and redone, it has given us a glimpse of what it will eventually look like. The decision to…

    Major Kitchen Renovation Week 11

Well, I am very hesitant to assume items will be crossed off the To-Do list for the next week. Last week we had planned on the electrical work to be completed and that was a bust. Don’t get me started on the cabinet handles and all their defects that had to be shipped back. Also wishing the countertops would be on was also sort of a let down. Needless to say, what we expected to be accomplished this week was not. This has left us with a week of stand still…once again. Week 1 You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below. Week 2…

    Major Kitchen Renovation Week 9

This week we are moving in the right direction! You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8 The three elements that were holding up progress finally let up.  The doors are finally here and they look great! The exterior door especially updates the look of our 1950’s ranch home. While the basement door helps to keep us from toppling down the steep stairs as we come inside.     The spice/wine cabinet also arrived this week to go next to the beverage center in order to finish off…
