Major Kitchen Renovation Week 8
As expected, not a lot was accomplished on the kitchen during week 8. You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 What takes the cake for week 8, is the pantry cabinet. I was super nervous about the pantry after demolition because I ordered the wrong size cabinet. I didn’t realize the exact location of the stair header underneath the kitchen, and thought there was more room to play with. I guess that’s one of the downfalls of doing it yourself with limited knowledge. But, lesson learned! Weeks…

Major Kitchen Renovation Week 7
The One Room Challenge may be over, but our major kitchen renovation is not! Let’s consider this week 7! You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Our big progress has somewhat stalled with Thanksgiving coming right up. Also as you can guess, we will not be hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house! There are three items holding up the completion of the kitchen. An exterior door A basement door A cabinet for the end of the island The door size was a little funky, so the doors had to be special…

One Room Challenge – Major Kitchen Renovation // Week 6
In a perfect world, we would be revealing our finished kitchen today. But we do not live in a perfect world, nor is anything in renovating perfect. It is the end of the One Room Challenge, but it is not the end for our kitchen updates! To see the progress so far, click on the links below. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 This week was the definition of challenging. Knowing that when we started this process, we expected to be pretty much done with the kitchen – minus a few small things here and there. Then, seeing all of the finished rooms for the challenge…

One Room Challenge – Major Kitchen Renovation // Week 5
Let’s face it…the deadline for the One Room Challenge will not be met. Starting off week five I had high hopes we would only be a couple weeks past being finished in six weeks. But as everyone knows in remodeling, things don’t always go according to plan. Especially with so many moving parts! To see the process of our kitchen renovation thus far, click on the links below for the previous weeks. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Things are still humming along, lots of progress is being made, and I even took three days off work to get more done! Well all that came to a halt,…

One Room Challenge – Major Kitchen Renovation // Week 4
To see the process of our kitchen renovation thus far, check out the links below for the previous weeks. Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 This week there is a huge demolition reveal and I must say it’s pretty shocking! The wall is down – hello, open concept! It is wonderfully strange to be able to look from the side door all the way through to the fireplace in the living room. It’s taking some getting use to, but I’m loving it! I am also relieved to see the whole space come together in front of my eyes instead of just a concept on paper.…

One Room Challenge – Major Kitchen Renovation // Week 3
Finally this week we are seeing progress! If you would like to see what we have done already, click on the links below. Week 1 Week 2 We made a huge dent in demolition over the last weekend, even though I said I was against demo before the dumpster made an appearance. I’m glad my husband talked me into biting the bullet and getting down to business because we are falling behind on our timeline! As you know we have a bunch to catch up on to make our 6 week deadline, so please bear with us! Our timeline has gotten a little hairy due to a commitment I undertook…

One Room Challenge – Major Kitchen Renovation // Week 2
Here we go – kicking off week 2! While it may seem like we didn’t get a lot accomplished visually, we did check off a ton of the non flashy items. If this week had a spirit animal though, I think it would be a sloth. In case you missed my post last week, head here to see what we are up to! The highlight of this week is we replaced four old steel frame, single-pane windows with more efficient white vinyl. We knew going in this task would be difficult, but not truely how much of a pain it would be. The old windows had to be…

One Room Challenge – Major Kitchen Renovation // Week 1
I decided to join the One Room Challenge (ORC)! If you are unfamiliar with the One Room Challenge, it is held biannually for 20 designers to show off their skills as they tackle one room. It is also a larger community by inviting guest participants (like me) to join in the festivities to transform a room in 6 weeks as well. You can follow along with all the participants here. I am fully aware an entire kitchen renovation is a lot to undertake in 6 weeks. We are very ambitious and slightly crazy, so it may just work! Though, I have a sneaking suspicion we will be sliding…

Easiest Way To Insulate Your Attic To Save On Utility Costs
Typically we start to think about insulation in the winter, but insulation should be a year around topic. When heating a room in the winter, the warm air rises and can escape through your attic. In the summer the hot air in the attic radiates into the rooms you are trying to cool below. By having the proper attic insulation, it will resist the transfer of heat in your home.
