Major Kitchen Renovation Week 10
We are on the final stretch!
This past week I feel like I can see the vision for the kitchen coming together more clearly.
You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below.
Well, I am done assuming items will be crossed off the To-Do list for the next week.
Last week we had planned on the electrical work to be completed and that was a bust. Don’t get me started on the cabinet handles and all their defects that had to be shipped back. Also wishing the countertops would be on was also sort of a let down.
Needless to say, what we expected to be accomplished this week was not. This has left us with a week of stand still…once again.
Finally the big mess has subsided!
After all the progress from this week, our biggest feat was cleaning. There is now a limited amount of dust and debris floating around and it is a huge relief!
This week saw completion of the tile with grout and baseboards. I’m glad I stuck with my gut and went with the larger tile, even though it added another level of difficulty to install.
As for the back breaking work on our part – the kitchen is freshly painted.
Now the main living areas are combined for an open concept, the color consistency with the rest of the house was necessary.
Benjamin Moore, Dove White in a flat sheen for the ceiling.
Benjamin Moore, Moonshine in flat for the walls.
There is still some painting to be done at a later time. Baseboard moulding for the island, window sills, and the doors still need to be primed and painted. All will be in Dove White as well.
The main goal at this point is to just get the kitchen to be functional.
The rest of the detail work can come later as to not hold us up any more. In doing this I am also vowing to myself that I will not fall victim to only completing 98% of the room, like I did in the remodel of the bathrooms one year ago.
Next week should see some finishing touches!
We hope the electrical work will be finished so we can finally turn some lights on. Fingers are super crossed the countertop will be installed next week as well…though that may be jumping the gun a bit.
I cannot stress enough how great it will be to have a functional kitchen again after so many weeks! It has been a struggle to say the least. We are on the home stretch and can’t give up now!
