Major Kitchen Renovation Week 7
The One Room Challenge may be over, but our major kitchen renovation is not!
Let’s consider this week 7!
You can see progress from the previous weeks by clicking on the links below.
Our big progress has somewhat stalled with Thanksgiving coming right up. Also as you can guess, we will not be hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house!
There are three items holding up the completion of the kitchen.
- An exterior door
- A basement door
- A cabinet for the end of the island
The door size was a little funky, so the doors had to be special ordered. Once the doors get here and installed, mudding can be finished around them. After that, texture to the walls and ceiling can be applied, and we can paint!
We figured out another cabinet was needed after installing the island cabinets. The centering of the cooktop with the exhaust fan was a little off and a few inch adjustment of the cabinet placement had to be made. This left a six inch gap on one end of the island support wall.
The options were to use two- three inch filler pieces flanking the beverage center, or to buy another cabinet at six inches for spices. Now the wait continues for the cabinet to arrive. Once the cabinet is in place, countertops can go in! Also with the countertops, the sink and gas cooktop can be installed too.
The electrical and installation of the appliances will pretty much finish off the kitchen to be functional once again!
This week did see some progress.
Tile for the floor is coming along! Only a few more rows are needed to be laid, and everything grouted. The kitchen tiles are massive at 18×32 inches. It is the same tile used in the bathrooms, just larger size.
Next week is Thanksgiving, so I don’t anticipate much to get done. If we are lucky, the pantry cabinet may be set in. Though it needs some work, in order to fit it in the wall.
A new hope…
If the kitchen is done in time for Christmas, that will make me happy!
