Major Kitchen Renovation Week 8
As expected, not a lot was accomplished on the kitchen during week 8.

What takes the cake for week 8, is the pantry cabinet.
I was super nervous about the pantry after demolition because I ordered the wrong size cabinet. I didn’t realize the exact location of the stair header underneath the kitchen, and thought there was more room to play with. I guess that’s one of the downfalls of doing it yourself with limited knowledge. But, lesson learned!
Weeks were spent trying to find a solution as the cabinet sat in the dining room reminding me of my mistake. All would be lost for this cabinet that was going to find a home in the garage for the remainder of its days unless we came up with a solution.
Then we realized we could fake it!
The bottom of the cabinet was cut off while leaving the doors in their entirety. Yes, we lost a good two feet of storage space. But, we saved by not having to buy a completely new cabinet. Let’s just say it’s now a custom cabinet.
Once a piece of wood was put in the bottom and the doors were mounted back on, I don’t think you can even tell it was once a mistake. At least that’s what I’m telling myself and I’m relieved how it turned out! All that’s left for the pantry is to put in the bottom drawers and upper shelves.
Also this week I have been mulling over cabinet handles.
If you have seen our bathrooms, you know I am a hardcore procrastinator when it comes to picking out cabinet handles. In the kitchen I have vowed to do better! This week I decided on what handles to use and all of their sizes.
I am going with 7.5 inch square chrome handles. With the pantry handles at 12.5 inches. I know…fingerprints, but it is what it is! I can’t get myself to mix metal finishes. The kitchen faucet, hot water faucet, and the pendants are all chrome, so it just makes sense for the handles to be as well.
This next week will lift our holding pattern.
The doors we have been waiting on for weeks should be here tomorrow! Once the doors are in, it will be a chain reaction of project completion. The tile floor can be finished, the walls and ceiling can be textured, then we can paint. The electrical can be completed as well and we can finally have light in the kitchen again!
Slowly but surely, the kitchen is getting put back together. We still don’t have appliances in and working, but dang it one of these days it will happen!
I just have to be patient.
