The three elements that were holding up progress finally let up.

The doors are finally here and they look great!

The exterior door especially updates the look of our 1950’s ranch home. While the basement door helps to keep us from toppling down the steep stairs as we come inside.

The spice/wine cabinet also arrived this week to go next to the beverage center in order to finish off the island. Now a template can be made for the countertops. I can’t wait for the dramatic change the countertops will provide once they are installed. One more step closer to a functional kitchen!

There are drawers for it too!

I took advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I ordered chairs for the eat in island. They arrived this week and I could not be happier with the way they look! The ghost chairs blend right in, as they should.

Also this week the oven cabinet had to be modified in order to fit both the oven and the microwave.

We had to get creative with this cabinet because it is actually a cabinet for a double oven. It was ordered this way on purpose, unlike the pantry. In my quest for clean lines and a clutter free kitchen, I didn’t want a microwave sitting on the counter. The second option was to stick it in an upper cabinet behind the doors. I am not overly tall and the thought of reaching high into the microwave for a hot bowl of soup was not going to fly. So, built in microwave it is!

Do you know how hard it is to find a microwave that can be built in for less than $1000? …So hard that I almost gave up! The thought of shelling out that kind of money for a microwave made me sick. Thankfully, I found a countertop microwave that included a trim kit in order for it to still look built in without the heavy price tag.

We spent the majority of the weekend preparing for the texture.

Everything that wasn’t sheetrock had to be meticulously taped and wrapped. A lot of time was spent paying very close attention to all aspects of the kitchen that are currently in place. Which lead me to notice something wasn’t quite right.

It wouldn’t be a renovation without a weekly issue.

The problem for this week is the light for the kitchen sink is not centered correctly. I should have caught it when it was installed a few weeks ago, but with so much going on it went unnoticed until I looked up. Symmetry is my jam and the thought of leaving it be would drive me nuts for years to come. Now is the time to fix it before everything is textured next week.
